Keynote: Southwest TX Regional Advisory Council (STRAC)

The Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) coordinates the regional trauma and emergency healthcare system for 22 Texas counties covering over 26,000 square miles. In 2017, STRAC coordinated a massive effort to save lives during Hurricane Harvey, a Category 4 catastrophic storm. We will hear from STRAC leadership on how health system collaboration and coordination benefited patients and maintained the integrity of community care. One of the assets available for deployment during such events is the AmBus, an ambulance-bus, capable of caring for up to 20 patients at a time. When patients need rapid access to care, when healthcare systems need help responding to major events, communication and coordination is essential. The AmBus will be on display and available for touring today from 11am -3pm.

Executive Engagement, Multidisciplinary Rounding and the Impact on Length of Stay

Halifax Health is a 680-bed community hospital system in Daytona Beach, FL. Reducing patient LOS was a strategic initiative at Halifax Health, and after attending a session at TeleCon17 on multi-disciplinary rounding, Tom Stafford and colleagues learned about the importance of planning, predicting and expediting patient discharges to free up capacity. Taking his learnings back to Halifax Health, Tom engaged the executive team to implement MDRs. The success was immediate – a full day reduction in patient length of stay from November 2017 to May 2018.  Learn more about what they did and how they’ve been able to sustain their success.
